Dental Implants
The health and function of your actual, natural teeth may affect more than just your oral health; they may have ramifications on your diet, speech, self-confidence, and overall quality of life, which is why losing one or multiple teeth due to significant decay, gradual wear, or traumatic injury can be a dreadful experience. In dentistry today, dental implants are a state-of-the-art solution to this critical problem, restoring the natural state of your teeth with more confidence than ever before.
This dental implant treatment process is a combined effort between your dentist and an experienced oral surgeon like Dr. Anthony Lizano. The implant surgery (as well as tooth extractions and bone grafting procedures) will be performed here at Diablo Valley Implant Dentistry in a safe and compassionate atmosphere. Your dentist will carry out the creation and placement of both temporary and permanent prostheses. Our Danville dental team works hard to ensure the highest quality of work while providing the latest technological solutions, keeping patients safe and comfortable. We welcome new smiles from Danville and throughout the East Bay and Bay Area.
Benefits of Dental Implants
Dental implants are small, titanium rods that our ABOI board certified dental implant surgeon, Dr. Anthony Lizano, surgically places into your jawbone. As your body heals, the rods fuse with bone, providing a strong and stable support for your false teeth. A dental implant has three parts:
- The rod – which your implant surgeon sets in the jaw.
- The abutment – which is attached to the top.
- The crown – which connects to the abutment.
Once the implants are in place, you will have a complete, functional, and beautiful smile. At Diablo Valley Implant Dentistry, implants are one of our most popular choices for tooth loss, offering numerous benefits. Some benefits of dental implants include:
- Dental Implants behave like natural teeth
- Can last a lifetime
- Prevent bone loss
- Keep adjacent teeth stable
- Can help keep you free of gum disease
- Prevent facial sagging and premature aging
Candidates for Dental Implants
Implants are usually the answer if you have one or multiple missing teeth. Also, if you have broken or decayed teeth, that might be beyond simple repair. Furthermore, you could benefit from dental implants if you are uncomfortable with dentures, partial dentures, or dental bridges.
In the past, dental implants were not considered for patients with insufficient bone or certain health conditions or habits. Advances in diagnostics, technology, and bone reconstruction have allowed most patients to receive dental implants.
Dental Implant Process
The dental implant process usually involves two main steps: Implants are surgically placed into the jawbone to replace one or several lost roots of teeth. Once healed the implant will provide solid and secure support for replacement teeth. Once implants are placed, they begin to bond with your jawbone beneath your gums, a process called osseointegration. When the implants have healed into your jawbone, the second phase of the process is placement of the replacement teeth.
For a single tooth implant, Dr. Lizano will customize a new tooth for you, called an implant crown. The crown will be based on size, shape, color and fit, and will be designed to blend in with your other teeth. If you are replacing more than a single tooth, custom-made fixed bridges or dentures will be made to fit your mouth and your implants.
